Can I make a second or subsequent tax rebate claim?

It is often possible for a person to make a successful tax rebate claim even when they have already claimed tax relief in previous years. People’s circumstances change regularly and these changes, in turn, change the tax relief and allowances available to them.

It is important to regularly review what expenses you can claim for and ensure you are claiming back all tax relief available to you.

One example of someone who is eligible to claim tax relief, despite a previous successful claim, would be a mechanic who has previously made a tax rebate claim for tools that they have bought for work. If they have purchased more tools since the original claim was made, the mechanic can make a second tool tax rebate claim.

It is common for tax codes to be changed to include expenses or other allowances if you have made a tax rebate claim previously. This means that since your claim you would have paid less tax than previously.

This does not always happen though and it is important to check if your tax code has included expenses from your previous claim. If your tax code was changed to include expenses, but you have since incurred more expenses than were added to tax code, then a further tax refund claim can still be made.
