Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 August 2026
This policy explains what happens to personal data when you use www.taxrebateservices.co.uk.
The short version: we publish free tax guides and calculators, and we do not ask you for personal information. There is no account to create, no form to fill in, no newsletter to join and nothing to pay. Most people read our guides without giving us anything at all.

We are the data controller for the personal data described below. We are not required to appoint a Data Protection Officer and have not appointed one. Data protection questions go to the email address above.
What we do not collect
- We do not ask for your name, address, date of birth or National Insurance number.
- We do not collect income figures, employment details or bank details.
- We do not operate accounts, logins, registrations, subscriptions or mailing lists.
- We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.
- We do not send marketing emails.
What we do handle
There are three narrow situations where personal data reaches us or passes through this site.
If you email us. We will have your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to read and, where we can, reply. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to someone who has chosen to contact us. We keep correspondence for up to 24 months from your last message, then delete it. Please do not send us personal tax details, because we cannot advise on individual circumstances.
Technical data from your visit. Our hosting keeps standard server logs including IP address, browser type and pages requested. These are used to keep the site running and secure and to diagnose faults. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in operating and protecting the website. Logs are kept for a short period and then deleted or anonymised.
Cookies and advertising. If you consent through our cookie banner, cookies and similar technologies collect information about your visit for analytics and advertising. That collection is carried out by third parties, principally Google, using their own systems. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Our calculators
Our calculators run in your browser. The figures you type in are used on your device to produce an estimate. We do not receive them, store them or send them to HMRC. Using a calculator does not start a claim and does not create any relationship between you and us.
A warning worth reading
We are not a tax repayment agent. We never ask for National Insurance numbers, income figures or bank details, and we will never ask you to sign an assignment or nomination transferring a tax refund to us.
If anyone contacts you asking for those things in our name, it is not us. Please report it to support@taxrebateservices.co.uk.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for functionality, analytics and advertising.
Everything about them, including what is set, by whom, for what purpose, how long each lasts and the full list of advertising vendors, is in our Cookie Policy. We keep the detail in one place so the two documents cannot drift apart.
You choose what to allow through the banner shown on your first visit, and you can change your mind at any time from the Cookie Policy page. Non-essential cookies are not set unless you consent.
Advertising
This site is free to read. We pay for it with advertising, served through Google AdSense.
- We do not choose the individual adverts you see. Google selects them.
- If you have consented to advertising cookies, that selection may be based on a profile built from your activity on this and other sites.
- We do not receive your personal data from Google. We see aggregate reporting on how adverts perform, not information about you.
- Google’s handling of your data is governed by its own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy, and you can control what Google shows you at adssettings.google.com.
- You can withdraw consent for advertising cookies at any time from our Cookie Policy page.
Some links on this site earn us a commission if you go on to buy a product or engage a firm. Those links pass no personal data to us. Our Website Terms and Conditions explain how that works.
Who else is involved
- Our hosting and security provider, which operates the servers and handles the logs described above.
- Our email provider, which carries any message you send us.
- Our consent management platform, which records your cookie choices.
- The advertising and analytics companies listed in our Cookie Policy, which act as controllers in their own right for data collected through cookies once you have consented.
We will disclose personal data where we are legally required to, for example in response to a valid court order or a lawful request from a regulator.
Sending data outside the UK
Some of the companies involved are based outside the United Kingdom, principally in the United States.
Where personal data leaves the UK it is protected by one of the safeguards recognised in UK law. That may be a finding by the UK Government that the destination provides adequate protection, or a contractual safeguard put in place by the company concerned. You can ask us for more detail about a particular transfer.
Keeping data safe
We use HTTPS across the site, keep our software up to date, restrict access to the email account that receives your messages and use reputable providers who maintain their own security standards.
No website can promise perfect security and we do not. What we can say is that we hold almost nothing about you in the first place, which is the most effective protection there is.
Children
This site is written for adults dealing with their own tax affairs. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13.
If you believe a child has sent us personal data, email support@taxrebateservices.co.uk and we will delete it.
Automated decisions
We do not make any decision about you by automated means that produces a legal effect or similarly significantly affects you.
Advertising cookies do involve profiling, meaning a picture of your likely interests is built to select adverts. That is done by Google and its partners, only with your consent, and it does not affect your rights or entitlements. You can refuse it or withdraw it at any time.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the following rights. Not all of them are absolute, and some apply only in particular circumstances. If an exemption applies to your request we will tell you and explain why.
- To be informed about what we do with your data, which is what this policy is for.
- To access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- To have inaccurate data corrected and incomplete data completed.
- To have your data erased where we no longer need it, where you withdraw consent we relied on, or where we have processed it unlawfully.
- To restrict processing, meaning we hold your data but stop using it, for example while we check whether it is accurate.
- To data portability, where we process data you gave us by automated means on the basis of consent or a contract.
- To object to processing based on our legitimate interests. Where processing is for direct marketing, the right to object is absolute.
- To withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything done beforehand. For cookies, use the Cookie Policy page.
To exercise any of these, email support@taxrebateservices.co.uk. It is free and we will respond within one month. If your request is complex we may extend that by up to two further months, and we will tell you within the first month if we do.
We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act, so that we do not disclose someone’s data to the wrong person.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us first at support@taxrebateservices.co.uk. Most things are quicker to resolve directly.
We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office under registration number Z8561682. You also have the right to complain to the ICO at any time, and you do not have to come to us first.

Other sites we link to
We link to gov.uk, professional bodies, accountants, software providers and other sites. Once you follow a link you are on someone else’s site, governed by their privacy policy rather than ours. We have no control over what they collect and no responsibility for it. Please read their policy before giving them your details.
Changes to this policy
We aim to review this policy once a year, and we will update it sooner if we change how we handle personal data. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
