Are you a member of the GOC?

You can claim tax back on your GOC fee for the last four tax years.

The tax office has agreed with the General Optical Council to give it’s members tax relief on their membership fees.

In addition to tax relief on membership fees members of the GOC are eligible to claim for other expenses related to their employment.

How do I claim a General Optical Council tax rebate?

A tax rebate for GOC membership fees and any other work related expenses can be claimed for at the same time on the same HMRC form.

The form that is usually used is a P87 which can be completed and submitted online to HMRC. If you are in self assessment and complete a tax return you will need to include your GOC fees and any other work related expenses in the relevant employment section of your tax return.
