If you are leaving the UK soon, or moved away within the last four tax years, then you are probably due a UK Tax rebate.

Who can claim a ‘Leaving the UK’ tax rebate?

Anyone who has been employed in the UK and has paid tax can claim. There is no restriction for who could be eligible to make a claim and it won’t affect you in the future if you decide to come back to work in the UK.

When should I claim my  ‘Leaving the UK’ tax rebate?

You should try and claim your tax back from the UK Tax Office as soon as you can. You have four tax years to claim what you are owed, so even if you have already settled somewhere else, you may still be in time to make a claim!

What paperwork do I need for my claim?

If your claim is basic, you will need to complete a ‘Leaving the UK’ form which lets the UK authorities know that you have left the UK and some other information relating to your tax status. Ideally you will also need your P45 from your last employer in the UK. The P45 will be given to you by your employer when you leave.
