NAHT Tax Rebate

Member of the National Association of Headteachers?

Hands up …who’d like a tax rebate?!

Exactly, so let’s do something about it! As a member of NAHT you are entitled to a tax back on the cost of your NAHT fees. But there are many other tax reliefs teachers are able to claim.

These are the most common rebates for head teachers and other professionals working in the education sector:

  • Subscriptions to professional bodies like the NUT and journals.
  • Mileage on journeys that you make for work in your own vehicle. This is outwith your commute to your own school. For example; to conferences, to multi-agency meetings or to other schools for CPD or moderation work. I am sure you can think of many more!
  • Use of home for work purposes – you all have to do this at some point.
  • Buying and washing specialist clothing. For example many teachers have successfully claimed for the PE kit they need to wear to teach PE lessons. If you have managed to squeeze in time to teach PE to support colleagues, then you would probably be eligible.

Is it worth the effort?

Most definitely you can get money for the last four years and save money in the future too by getting a new tax code which reduces the amount of income paid moving forward.
