Cabin Crew Tax Rebate EIM 50070

Did you know that Cabin Crew are entitled to tax relief on £720 per year?

Read on!

Unite Union have negotiated an agreement with the Tax Office on behalf of all Cabin Crew. This is called a Flat Rate Expense agreement ( EIM50070 ) and means that all flight attendants can claim the same amount without having to discuss an amount individually.

How much is a cabin crew tax rebate worth?

From the 2013/14 tax year, this Flat Rate Expense amount is £720! It replaces any pre-existing locally agreed Flat Rate Expense agreements.

An initial claim can be backdated for four years so your eventual tax rebate cheque can be for a substantial amount!

What is the cabin crew flat rate expense for?

This Flat Rate Expense deal is to cover the cost of laundering and cleaning your uniform only. As the majority of airlines provide their employees’ uniforms, it does not include the cost of purchasing a uniform.

If you do work for an airline that expects you to buy your uniform yourself, then you are entitled to claim for replacement uniform items on top of your Flat Rate Expense amount. Unfortunately the initial cost of buying your uniform is not covered.

Is there anything else cabin crew can claim for?

There are often other tax reliefs that cabin crew are entitled to, such as;

hotel costs if you are required to stay overnight and this is not reimbursed by your employer; or using your own vehicle to travel to a temporary workplace. Each one has its own rules about what substantiating evidence is needed, if any, and you shouldn’t just assume that you have nothing to claim because you haven’t collected receipts.

HMRC look at each tax rebate claim on an individual basis, so you need to consider all of the tax reliefs that are applicable to your situation when you make your claim.

Flight Deck crew are not included in this deal, but have a different Flat Rate Expense agreement with HMRC. (EIM50050)
