British Association for Nursing in Cardiovascular Care

According to the British Heart Foundation there are currently 2.3 million people in Britain who are living with coronary heart disease. Every one of those people are being expertly cared for by a nurse who specialises in cardiovascular care.

Do you belong to The British Association for Nursing in Cardiovascular Care?

Reclaiming tax relief on your BANCC membership

BANCC provides an essential voice for you as a carer of cardiovascular patients.  Its commitment to professional development, knowledge sharing, nurses as researchers and excellence within your field is admirable.

The benefits of being a member are obvious. But the fee is another chunk out of your salary that no-one can easily afford. The government recognises this by forming agreements with professional bodies like the BANCC that allow members to claim back the tax they pay on their membership fees.

There are a number of other work related tax reliefs that members of BANCC have successfully claimed back including:

  • Buying work uniforms or protective clothing

For nurses, this includes shoes, tights and socks! If you are not reimbursed by your employer, then you are entitled to claim.

  • Washing work uniforms and protective clothing

If you are not provided with laundry facilities, then you can claim the cost of washing and drying your work wear at home.

  • Using your own vehicle for work journeys

Unfortunately this does not mean the daily commute to a permanent workplace. But it does include travelling to different locations to carry out your work. For example, if you work between two different hospital units.

  • Membership to Trade Unions and professional bodies

You just need to check if your Trade Union and any other organisation (for example the NMC) you belong to has the same agreement as the BANCC. The subscription cost of some professional journals is sometimes eligible.

  • Working from home

If your job description requires you to work from home, then there are some available tax reliefs. This does not apply when it is your personal choice to work at home, rather than at your workplace.
