Q. What is a tax code notice of coding?
A. A notice of coding is issued by HMRC and states your current tax code as calculated by HMRC.
The notice has an explanation of how the tax code has been calculated.
You will not necessarily receive a new notice of coding each tax year. The most common reasons for a notice of coding to be issued are:
- A change in tax allowances in the budget.
- A claim has been made for tax relief on allowances/work related expenses.
