If you are required to buy tools you need for your job, using your own money, then you are eligible to claim a flat rate job expense for the purchase cost of the tools, as well as the cost of maintaining and replacing your tools.

Flat rate expenses, also referred to as flat rate deductions, are predetermined allowances that have been set by the tax office. The amount you can claim varies and depends on your industry and job title.

There is a long list of agreed FRE amounts for many industries. If your industry isn’t listed you can still claim a standard flat rate job expense of £60 per tax year.
