Common Questions About Tax
Q. What is an emergency tax code?
A. An emergency tax code is a code used when not enough information is known about your income by your employer.
The code is usually used by your employer until HMRC issues a correct tax code.
The most common emergency tax code is BR. The code stands for basic rate and assumes that you do not receive any personal allowances. A BR code is also used when you receive a second form of income.
