Q. I am a member of VOICE. Can I claim tax relief on my membership fees?
A. As a member of VOICE you can claim tax relief on 70% of your VOICE membership fee.
A teacher tax rebate claim can potentially be made for the last four tax years. If you pay into other professional bodies and unions for example the GTC, HMRC generally allows a teacher tax rebate claim to be made for membership.
On completion of your VOICE tax relief claim HMRC will adjust your tax code resulting in you paying less tax in all future years in your profession unless your circumstances change.
You can also make a teacher tax rebate claim for sports related clothing purchased to teach or supervise pupils for P.E / sports lessons, equipment and journals purchased for work use and for business mileage incurred in the course of your job.
