Q. I am a member of NASUWT. Can I claim NASUWT tax relief?

A. It is possible to reclaim NASUWT tax relief on two thirds of your annual subscription fees paid to the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers.

A claim for the NASUWT tax relief can potentially be claimed for the last four tax years. Additional tax relief can be claimed if you pay membership into other professional bodies for example the General Teaching Council.

On completion of your NASUWT tax relief claim HMRC will adjust your tax code resulting in you paying less tax in all future years in your profession unless your circumstances change.

If you incur extra costs for example purchases of equipment and journals for work use, purchase of sports related clothing to teach or supervise pupils for P.E / sports lessons or business mileage when using your own vehicle in the performance of your job, then a further claim can be added to your NASUWT tax relief claim.
